KINGSTON, Ont. (January 12, 2020)- The No.8 Queen's Gaels (6-3) took their first home court win of the year, dominating the RMC Paladins (1-8) in straight sets at the Queen's ARC.
GAME FLOW
The first set saw strong starts from middle blocker
Julian Krygel and outside hitter
Zac Hutcheson. With Hutcheson continuing his strong start through the match with 10 total match kills. Likewise, Krygel also continued to show impressively; landing back to back aces in the first set. Despite service error issues in the opening set the Gaels hung on for a 25-16 win.
The Gaels spent the second set putting down massive kills. Outside hitters
Adam Boljkovac and
Erik Siksna dominated the offence in the second, they finished the match with six and seven kills respectively against the Paladins. Queen's held onto their lead though the second, completing the set 25-15.
Outside hitter
Joel Rudd demonstrated his attack skills in the third set. With a total of five match kills, and strategic defense, Rudd was an integral component to the Gaels 25-23 third set. The Gaels took their first home court win of the New Year in straight sets 3-0, though RMC made things interesting late with 23 in the final set.
