Arsenault stops 17 in shutout win at Guelph

GUELPH, Ont. (January 11, 2020) - It was an afternoon affair in Guelph on Saturday afternoon as the Queen's Gaels (9-6-1-1) picked up a 2-0 shutout road victory over the Guelph Gryphons (7-5-1-2) in OUA women's hockey action.

GAME FLOW
After falling to Western in London on Friday night it was a quick turnaround for the Gaels with a 2 pm puck drop in Guelph.

The Gaels started the opening period with a pair of early power-play chances but couldn't convert. They fired eight shots on goal compared to just five for Guelph after a scoreless first period.

The second period saw the Gaels offence come to life. First, a streaking Bridgid Goris feathered a pass through a Guelph defender onto the stick of Taylor Hicks who easily beat Guelph netminder Aurore Beaulieu with her first goal of the season.

Just under two minutes later, Kaylie Dennis got a wide-open shot from the slot and made no mistake picking up her fifth of the season with assists going to Nicole Posesorski and Hailey Wilson. The Gaels carried a 2-0 lead into the final period.

The final period saw the two teams continue to trade penalties as eight more were called in the final 20 minutes. The Gaels were able to hang on to their lead and Makenzy Arsenault stopped another five shots in the frame to bring her total to 17 in the 2-0 shutout.

With the win, the Gaels now sweep the season series against Guelph.
