PETERBOROUGH Ont. (January 10^th, 2020) - The Queen's Gaels (6-3) rang in the New Year at the Trent Athletic Centre with a straight set sweep against the Trent Excalibur (1-8) on Friday evening in OUA women's volleyball action. 
 
GAME FLOW
The Gaels didn't waste any time showing the Excalibur that the impenetrable defence and powerful offence will continue for the Tricolour in 2020. The Gaels quickly took the first set 25-12. Outside hitter Arielle Palermo led the offence with a total of 12 match kills on the evening as the Gaels made quick work of Trent in the opening set. 
 
The Gaels athleticism prevailed in the second set as well, another fast-paced set. With huge kills from outside hitter Julia Wiercigroch, who had just one attack error on the evening, combined with the strong defensive play of Alexandra Tsiofas, the Gaels had no issue pocketing another set 25-10.
 
Queen's continued to hold the aggressive tone they set in the first two sets. The Gaels completed a clean match sweep taking the third set 23-16. With impressive overall performances from Danielle Corrigan completing seven kills on offence and outside hitter Rachael Meilikhan picking up four digs defensively.
