Field Hockey
The Gaels field hockey team competed in Toronto this weekend against the York Lions and Guelph Gryphons.
On Saturday, Queen's faced off against the defending OUA champions, the ions. Down 2-0, the Gaels fought back early in the fourth quarter with a penalty corner goal scored by captain Izzy Mastantuono. The Gaels ferociously sought an equalizer for the remainder of the match, the Lions scored a penalty corner goal in the last minute of play to seal a 3-1 victory.
Sunday was just as tough for the Gaels, as Queen's faced the second-place Gryphons. Queens came firing out of the gate, as third-year
Ella King scored the opening goal of the match. The Gryphons took the lead and Queen's was unable to answer back as Guelph went on to win a difficult battle 9-1.
Women's Lacrosse
The Gaels lacrosse team traveled to Toronto to challenge the Toronto Varsity Blues and York Lions this past weekend at Varsity Stadium. In the first game, the Gaels faced a hard working Blues team that kept things tight early on. The Gaels would lead 4-2 after the first quarter. With five goals in the second quarter the Gaels would pull away and did not look back winning the contest 15-7.
Kiah Shanks lead the way with four goals and two assists,
Jordan Kummer added three goals and two assists, and Christina Holmes also scored three goals and registered one assist.
The second game of the day was against York, which was a strong team effort as thirteen different players scored in the Gaels blowout 16-0 victory over York. The Gaels return to Toronto next Saturday to face Ontario Tech and York at Alumni Field.
Cycling
The Gaels cycling team competed this on Sunday
at Ganaraksa Forest. In the Men's A race, the Gaels swept the podium as
Andrew Jonker claimed first, Ryan Jonker earned second and Matt Brichard placed third. Queen's also earned top spot in the Men's B race as Eric Yuyitung finished in first place.
The Gaels women also had a successful day as Kaitlyn Shikaze and Hanna Girndt closed out the podium in second and third place, respectively, in the Women's A. In the Women's B, Erika Rankin and Heidi Miller finished one-two as Queen's topped the podium.
Fastpitch
The Queen's Gaels fastpitch team competed in action against the Ryerson Rams and Toronto Varsity Blues in Toronto over the weekend. The Gaels split two games with the Rams on Saturday, losing 3-2 and winning 6-2. Queen's finished out the weekend sweeping the Varsity Blues on Sunday, winning 6-1 and 11-4.
