KINGSTON, Ont. (August 31, 2019) – The Queen's Gaels (1-0-0) defeated the Ryerson Rams (0-1-0) 2-1 on Saturday afternoon at Richardson Stadium in front of 250 fans in attendance.
GAME FLOW
Through the first 20 minutes, it was a back and forth battle for possession with both sides controlling the ball. After two shots on goal by Queen's,
Jamie Foot got the Gaels on the board with heading home
Taylor Green's corner kick in the 28
th minute to give the Tricolour a 1-0 lead.
Rams forward Alexa Rodkin responded quickly for Ryerson scoring in the 30
th minute to level the score 1-1.
Throughout the first half, corner kicks were the story heavily influencing the pace of the match. The first half closed with a Gaels scoring opportunity as a close shot taken by
Christie Gray narrowly missed a wide open goal.
Queen's opened the second half the same way they ended the first, pressuring Ryerson early. Jenna Matuskboko found the back of the net in the 63
rd minute on a pass from Foot.
The Gaels continued on the attack for the remainder of the second half tallying a total of nine shots on net compared to Ryerson's three.
Ryerson mounted a comeback attempt to close the game, but Queen's goalkeeper
Anna Stephenson was solid helping the Gaels to secure their first win of the season.
