Game 3 needed as Gaels fall 5-2 at home

KINGSTON, Ont. (February 22, 2019) – The Queen's Gaels fell 5-2 in game 2 of the OUA Quarterfinals to the No.4 Ottawa Gee-Gees.

With the series now tied the Gaels will look to rebound as they head back up to Ottawa in a winner takes all game 3.

GAME FLOW
The Gaels came out looking to repeat the start they had on Wednesday night in Ottawa and came close to doing so. On an early 3-on-1 opportunity, Jaden Lindo fired a wrist shot but Gee-Gee's goaltender Graham Hunt was able to make the save.

This time it was Ottawa who were the first to find the back of the net as Jean-Francois Plante snapped a quick shot past Justin Fazio.

Duncan Campbell had the other quality scoring chance for the Gaels as he sent a shot that skimmed the crossbar on a 2-on-1 break.

After the first intermission, the Gee-Gees outshot the Gaels 16-7 and both teams went 0-for-1 on powerplay opportunities.

The Gaels had a better start to the second as they controlled the pace of play for the first half of the period. However, with one shot the Gee-Gees were able to swing the momentum in their favour.

Adam Beveridge sent a shot on net from the point which was tipped in front by Brendan Jacome to give the Gee-Gees a 2-0 lead.

Shortly after, Cody Van Lierop scored Ottawa's third straight and gave his squad a commanding 3-0 lead.

However, the Gaels were able to get one back thanks to a late powerplay opportunity. Spencer Abraham faked a slap shot then sent a wrister past a screened Hunt to get the Gaels on the board and some momentum heading into the final period.

The Gee-Gees who would put a final stamp on Friday night's game as they scored two quick goals to seal the win.

Alex Row tallied the second goal for the Gaels on a tipped shot from Duncan Campbell. But that was as close as the Gaels could make it falling 5-2.
