KINGSTON, Ont. (February 17, 2019) – The No.8 Queen's Gaels (14-3) picked up a three-set victory over the Trent Excalibur (0-16) on Sunday afternoon. The scores of each set were 25-15, 25-14, 25-13.
GAME FLOW
After the teams traded points to begin the match, the Gaels pulled away in the opening set building a 14-4 lead. Strong serving from
Malcolm Prentice and
Adam Boljkovac helped the Gaels get off to a fast start.
Zac Hutcheson and
Joel Rudd combined for 7 kills in the remainder of the set as they closed it out 25-15.
Boljkovac kick-started the second set with back-to-back kills as the Gaels quickly jumped out to a 16-8 advantage. The Excalibur could not stay out of their own way as at one point they committed four consecutive errors padding the Gaels lead. Queen's took the second set 25-14.
With victory within their grasp, the Gaels kept their foot on the gas pedal. Hutcheson had six points in the final set as they set up
Julian Krygel who hit two consecutive aces to finish the game.

257 – Hutcheson sits second in the OUA with 257 kills. He had 10 kills on Sunday, which led the team.
19 – The Gaels combined for 19 service aces.
17 – The Gaels had 17 more kills than the Excalibur.
PLAYOFF PUSH
The Gaels have clinched the top spot in the OUA East with their win over Trent. They do play one final regular season game next weekend, but regardless of the result they can not be caught by the Ryerson Rams.

The Gaels will remain at home for their final game of the regular season. On Friday, February 22 they'll welcome the RMC Paladins (2-15) to the ARC.
