Gaels back to form with 3-0 win over Laurier

KINGSTON, Ont. (February 1, 2019) – The Queen's Gaels (12-8-0-0) won a commanding 3-0 contest over the Laurier Golden Hawks (4-16-0-1) on Friday night. Quick fire offence and stout defending led the way in a bounce back win for the Gaels.

GAME FLOW
The Gaels had a strong start to their game as Makenzy Arsenault made some key saves early, which opened the door for her team to strike.

Midway through the period, Katrina Manoukarakis found Caroline DeBruin who had rushed into the offensive zone off a change. DeBruin then wired a shot past Cohen Myers giving the Gaels the lead through the opening period. Just like that the Gaels had already matched their production from a 1-0 win over the Golden Hawks in late November.

The Gaels wasted no time adding to their lead to start the second period. Just 24 seconds in Devon Greenough sent a shot on net from the point that found its way to the back of the net. The goal was Greenough's first of the season and the second goal of her Gaels career.

A few minutes later, Caroline DeBruin continued her hot streak as she found the net for her second goal of the game. On a partial 2-on-1 opportunity, Taylor Hicks sent a shot on net however the rebound off Cohen Myers bounced high into the air and back down into the crease. DeBruin was their to knock the loose puck over the goal line and brought the Gaels lead to 3-0.

Defence carried the way for the remainder of the game as the Gaels limited the Golden Hawks to a single shot in the final period.
