de Goede drops 27 points in tough loss against Windsor

WINDSOR, Ont. (November 16, 2019) - The No. 3 Queens Gaels (5-3) fall to the Windsor Lancers (7-1) 82-66 after a hard fought contest.

GAME FLOW
The Gaels started the game slowly on offence just like they had the night before against Western. Despite this, their interior defence, with Sophie de Goede getting two of her 14 total rebounds in the first quarter, prevented the Lancers from running away with it. Early points came from the Lancers top scorer, Eve Uwayesu and Gaels Emma Weltz. Windsor finishes the first quarter on top after scoring two points off of free throws to make the score 15-12.

In the second quarter, de Goede started the Gaels back on their offensive play, which brought the Gaels back within four of the Lancers. de Goede led the Gaels offense with a game-high 27 points. The Gaels tough defence and Windsor's turnovers helped Queen's keep the deficit to just four at the end of the first half.

De Goede opened the quarter by draining a jumper, which was quickly answered by Windsor. Halfway through the third, the Lancers began to mount a run, as they expanded their lead to nine points over Queens. The third quarter ended with Uwayesu nailing a three-pointer to contribute to her team-high of 21 points. Gaels trailed 58-49 at the end of the quarter.

Windsor pulled away in the fourth quarter as the Lancers showcased their ability to finish halting the Gaels from mounting a comeback. Windsor defeated Queen's with a final score of 82-66.
