Gaels blowout Nipissing Lakers 8-1 on banner night

KINGSTON, Ont. (October 26, 2019) - The Queens Gaels (4-3) handedly defeated the Nipissing Lakers 8-1 on Saturday night at the Memorial Centre.

GAME FLOW
On a night that saw the Gaels raise their 2018 OUA Championship banner, Queen's completely dismantled Nipissing scoring six unanswered goals in the second period on their way to an 8-1 victory.

Gaels forward Jared Bethune opened the scoring late in the first period tapping home a rebound to give the Gaels a 1-0 lead.

The Gaels pressured early in second period but didn't find the back of the net until Alex Row found the top corner with 13:28 remaining in the the period. Row's goal opened the floodgates as minute later Ryan Cranford took a 2-on-1 feed and slid it into the bottom corner to give the Gaels a 3-0 lead.

Nipissing called a timeout to regroup but the effort failed as Jaren Burke scored just 30 seconds later to push the lead to 4-0. Things only got worse for the Lakers in the second as Matthew Hotchkiss, Row and Jaden Lindo each scored in three minute span to balloon the Gaels lead to 7-0.

Nipissing got one back early in the third period but Patrick Sanvido responded with his first goal of the season to seal a blowout 8-1 victory for the Gaels.
