Luke Richardson earns shutout as Gaels blank Nipissing Lakers 1-0

KINGSTON, Ont. (October 25, 2019) - The Queen's Gaels (3-3-0) earn a 1-0 shutout victory over the Nipissing Lakers (4-1-0) at the Memorial Centre on Friday night. 
 
GAME FLOW

After a back and forth first period, Jared Bethune scored the only goal in the game, redirecting home a Stephen Gibson point shot for his first goal of the season, late in the first period.

Despite the low scoring outcome, the game was an entertaining battle as the Gaels fired 37 shots on goal and Queen's goaltender Luke Richardson was forced to make 21 saves in earn the victory for Queen's. 

The Lakers were assessed 20 penalty minutes and killed off four penalties to deny the Gaels from scoring a power play goal. The Gaels outshot Nipissing in each period, racking up a 37 to 21 advantage by the final whistle. 

Nipissing made a late surge pulling their goalie with 1:21 remaining, a situation made worse for Queen's by Gaels captain Patrick Sanvido taking a penalty with 31 seconds left in the game. 

However, Richardson stood stall in the final moments of the game, denying a flurry of desperate scoring attempts by Nipissing to seal the 1-0 victory for Queen's.

20 - Number of penalty minutes served by Nipissing as the Lakers racked up six infractions including a 10:00 minute game misconduct.
