Last season, the Gaels posted an impressive 13-6 record and finished third in the OUA East Division but fell to the Western Mustangs in the first round of the OUA playoffs for the third straight year.
This season, the Gaels will be without star outside hitter Caroline Livingston who finished fourth in the OUA in kills with 247, en route to being named a first-team OUA All-Star. Also missing from the roster are departed players
Isabelle Korchinski,
Sierra Hardy and
Victoria Wensley.Â
Queen's led the OUA in kills last season thanks large in part by Livingston, but also with help from outside hitters Julia Wiercigroch and Arielle Palermo, as well as middle blocker Saffron van der Linde, who are poised to lead the Gaels on offence this year.Â
Third-year Wiercigroch recorded 161 kills the second-highest total on the team behind Livngston, while Palermo contributed 133 kills. Wiercigroch was named second-team OUA All-Star and Palermo was selected to All-Rookie team.Â
In addition, Sierra Hardy finished last season third in the OUA in assists with 636 and was an All-Star, Queen's will look to a younger group of setters to replace Hardy as the quarterback. The Gaels will be led on defence by middle blockers
Saffron van der Linde,
Danielle Corrigan and
Natalie Crews.Â
Van der Linde led Queens with 50 total blocks, while Corrigan and Wiercigroch contributed 41 and 31 blocks, respectively. Â
