KINGSTON, Ont. (January 26, 2019) – The Queen's Women's Basketball Team (11-7) defeated the Laurentian Voyageurs (6-12) 72 to 46 on Saturday night at the ARC – Main Gym.
ALARIE'S 1000TH
Early in the second quarter,
Marianne Alarie made a basket which marked her 1000th and 1001st career points as a Gael. She finished the game with 13 points and now sits at 1,009 in her career. Alarie joins recent Gaels greats
Liz Boag (1,055)
Jenny Wright (1,167) and
Brittany Moore (1,652) in the 1,000 point club. Moore holds the Queen's all-time record with 1,652 which she established in 2012.

This Saturday marked the Gaels annual Bell Let's Talk games as women's and men's volleyball, women's and men's basketball and men's hockey hosted special Mental Health Awareness themed events throughout the day.

GAME FLOW
The Gaels opened up the game building on last night's positive offensive momentum, starting the game on a 16-3 run and eventually building the lead out to 23-4 by the end of the first quarter. The Gaels shot 56% from the field in the frame and recorded seven assists.
The Voyageurs responded well in the second quarter after their tough start, besting the Gaels by a score of 16-11 and cutting the lead to 14 points. Nonetheless, the Gaels led the Voyageurs at the half by a score of 34-20. Leading the way for the Gaels in the opening half was
Maddie Morris with eight points and
Sophie de Goede with seven rebounds.
The Gaels came out of the half with a definitive third, outscoring the visiting Voyageurs 23-8 and establishing a 29-point lead at 57-28 heading to the fourth and final quarter. The Gaels controlled the lead in the quarter, all while giving some valuable minutes to the bench, easily controlling their way to a 72-46 win.
Leading the way for the Gaels was
Veronika Lavergne with 15 points and
Sophie de Goede with nine rebounds. The Gaels out-rebounded the Voyageurs 49-34 and held the visiting team to just 25% shooting from the field. With the 2-0 weekend, the Gaels have solidified their 4th place position in the OUA East standings and remain in touch with the top three.
