WATERLOO, Ont. (January 19, 2019) - The Queen's Gaels (8-3) were victorious in a three set sweep against the Waterloo Warriors (3-6). The scores of each set were 25-22, 25-23, and 25-18.
GAME FLOW
The Gaels got off to a rocky start, trailing the Warriors early in the first set. The Tricolour tied Waterloo at 9-9 and played back and forth with the Warriors for much of the first. A three point streak nearing the end of the first with kills from
Zac Hutcheson and
Joel Rudd allowed Queen's to take the lead. The Gaels solidified their win on a kill by
Adam Boljkovac making the score 25-22.
The Gaels held their own early in the second set and tied the Waterloo Warriors at 7-7. Queen's struggled to overtake and maintain the Warriors until the score was tied at 16-all. An ace from
Dylan Hunt allowed Queen's to secure the lead. The Tricolour continued to find holes in the Waterloo defence and won the set off a kill from Hunt to make the score 25-23.
Queen's played a much stronger third and final set, taking an early four point lead. The Gaels maintained their offensive momentum throughout the set and held the lead far out of reach from the Warriors. Queen's made kills in the third set and held a six point gap over Waterloo. The Tricolour ended the set and the game off a kill made by
Malcolm Prentice with a score of 25-18.
