KINGSTON, Ont. (September 16, 2018) – The Queen's women's soccer team were victorious over the RMC Paladins with a 5-0 performance on Sunday afternoon. It was the second consecutive win over the Paladins this weekend after a 3-0 win yesterday.
GAME FLOW
In the first 10 minutes of the game, possession of the ball was traded back and forth between the Gaels and the Paladins. The Tricolour quickly gained control of the ball and began their offensive attack on RMC defenders. In the 13th minute, Jenny Wolever (Toronto, Ont.) made a break by the RMC defenders to score the first goal of the game for Queen's. Not even a minute later, Sarah Nixon (Oakville, Ont.) put another goal in the bottom right corner of the Paladins' net off a cross and assist made by Jamie Foot (North Vancouver, B.C.).
The Gaels continued their first half push with several runs down the sidelines made by Foot and Alexandra Doane (Brookeside, N.S.).
Doane's hard work payed off in the 38th minute of the game on a run to the top of the 6-yard box when Wolever sent a cross her way. Doane quickly tapped the ball into the back of the open net. The Gaels took a 3-0 lead into the half.
In the second half, the Gaels continued to apply pressure with several runs towards the RMC net. In the 50th minute, Christie Gray (Vancouver, B.C.) capitalized on a loose ball after RMC goalkeeper Claudia Rusu fumbled the ball in the 6-yard box.
In extra time, Andrea Meneses (Richmond Hill, Ont.) scored the fifth and final goal of the match, making the final score 5-0 for the Queen's Gaels.
