Five Gaels score in shutout win over RMC

KINGSTON, Ont. (September 12th, 2018) – The Queen's men's soccer team (4-1-0)  thoroughly outplayed the RMC Paladins (2-2-1) en route to a 5-0 victory.

GAME FLOW
The Gaels came roaring out of the gates, putting the Paladins under pressure almost immediately. Queen's broke the deadlock only five minutes into the match, as first year midfielder Nick Alie Day capitalized on the Paladins sloppy defending.

RMC's best chance to get themselves back in the match came just short of the 20 minute mark, the Paladins had two corner kicks in quick succession but were unable to capitalize.

In the 35th minute the Gaels doubled the advantage, this time assisted by Nick Alie Day and finished by Brevin MacKay.

In the 42nd minute, the Gaels put the match further out of reach when 5th year forward Antoine Noel glanced home a header off a corner kick.

The Gaels consolidated their advantage in the second half adding goals from Andrew Kim and Junior Kwame Addai.

BY THE NUMBERS
4 – Brevin MacKay scored his 4th goal of the season, backing up his two-goal performance from the weekend
3- This was the Gaels 3rd clean sheet of the season and third in their last four matches

FINAL SAY
Post-match, head coach Christian Hoefler explained the importance of his early tactical adjustments: "They're (RMC) usually very organized defensively…we saw they were pushing a bit high up the pitch and wanted to take advantage of the space in behind, looking for some creation from our midfield and attacking three."

UP NEXT
The Gaels host the Toronto Varsity Blues this Saturday (15th) followed by the Ryerson Rams on Sunday (16th). Both matches take place at 3:15pm at Richardson Stadium.
