No. 8 Gaels win-streak snapped in Ottawa, will look to set program win mark at home Saturday

OTTAWA (February 9, 2018) - The No. 8 Queen's Gaels (18-6-3) would see their six-game win streak snapped during a tough 4-1 loss to the Ottawa Gee-Gees (15-8-4) at the Minto Sports Complex on Friday night. The Gaels were unable to set a new franchise record for wins and will look to do so in the season finale Saturday.

GAME FLOW
Tough defence from both the home and away sides didn't allow for either team to get set-up in the opening period. A penalty kill in the closing minutes saw an Ottawa Gee-Gees forward tear down on a break away, dinging the crossbar and keeping the game scoreless in the first.

With the clock winding, the Gaels caught the Gee-Gees in transition during a power play when Darcy Greenaway (Wilton, Ont.) connected with rookie forward Jaden Lindo (Brampton, Ont.) who then found Luke Edwards (Kingston, Ont.) to score his eighth goal of the season to get the Gaels on the scoreboard.

The 1-0 score would hold by the end of a scrappy first period that saw three penalties between two sides that average the lowest penalty minutes in the league.

Kevin Bailie (Belleville, Ont.) came to play in the second, pulling off a series of fantastic saves. It wasn't until the second half of the period that Bailie would be beat off the stick of Gee-Gees Jacob Sweeney, who found the top left corner to level the score 1-1. With the shots at 22-11 in favour of the Gee-Gees, Bailie continued to put in work for the Tricolour.

All tied up, the third period had Ottawa down early following a big hit that sent Gee-Gee's forward Mitchell Gibson into the penalty box. Looking to capitalize on the power play, the Gaels turned the offensive pressure on.

Halfway through the final frame, a scramble in front of the Gaels net would see Gee-Gees forward Quinn O'Brien in the right place at the right time. Minutes later, Quinn would find the net again, edging the Gaels 3-1 and extending his goal streak to six goals in four games. The Gee-Gees would add one more with an open-netter for a 4-1 finish in favour of the home side.
