Gaels lose in heartbreaking fashion at Windsor

WINDSOR, Ont. (November 3rd, 2018) – The Queen's Men's Basketball Team (1-2) fell to the Windsor Lancers (2-2) 61-59 on Saturday night at St. Denis Centre.

GAME FLOW
The Gaels came hot out of the gates early, scoring 23 points in the first quarter and holding the Lancers to just 16 points. It would be a different story in the second quarter, with the game grinding to a relative halt as the two teams combined for just 19 points. The Lancers bested the Gaels 10-9 in the 2nd but the Gaels still took a relatively comfortable 32-26 lead to the half.

The Gaels were led offensively by none other than Jaz Bains, who scored 15 points on 6 for 11 shooting. Outside of Bains, the Gaels really struggled to shoot the ball in the first half, with Quinton Gray going 1 for 14 and Landon Brickenden going 2 for 6. The Lancers top scorer at the half was Telloy Simon with 6 points.

The 3rd quarter was another low scoring affair with the teams each scoring 13 points and the Gaels maintaining their 6-point advantage. The Gaels would look comfortable for most of the 4th quarter taking a 59-52 lead with just 2:15 remaining on a Swann Fargeau layup. Unfortunately, this would be the last point the Gaels would score as the Lancers went on a nine-point run to end the game, sealed by Telloy Simon's clutch free throw shooting.

The Gaels would lose 61 to 59 in what has to be an incredibly frustrating loss - as they controlled the entire game up until the final two minutes.

Jaz Bains led the Gaels with 28 points on 50% shooting while the Lancers were led by Telloy Simon who had 19 points and went 6 for 7 from the free throw line. The Gaels out-rebounded the Lancers 41 to 30 but the Lancers put up an astounding 39 points off the bench while the Gaels could only muster 6.

The Lancers largest lead of the night (2 points) came as the game ended.

BY THE NUMBERS
12 - Swann Fargeau led the Gaels on the boards with twelve rebounds.
22 - the Windsor starters combined for only 22 points.
