Gaels sneak out victory over Voyageurs

KINGSTON, Ont. (November 16th, 2018) – The Queen's Gaels (9-3-0) defeated the Laurentian Voyageurs (4-7-0) by a score of 3-2 in Friday night OUA in men's hockey action.
 
GAME FLOW
The Gaels got off to a rough start, as Nicholas Dionne scored both of the Voyageurs' goals and the away team took a 2-0 lead to the first intermission.  Laurentian held this lead despite being largely outplayed, capitalizing once on a sloppy Gaels turnover and once on the powerplay. 
 
Queen's took their play to another level in the second period as the Gaels put up a whopping 30 shots on Voyageurs goaltender Mackenzie Savard. The Gaels also managed to chip away at the lead, drawing within one on the power play off a screened point shot from Graeme Brown which found the top corner.
 
The Gaels started the third period on the, and even though they were unable to capitalize with the advantage, the Gaels would quickly tie it up through Ben Fanjoy. Fanjoy capitalized after a physical forecheck by Francesco Vilardi left him wide open in front of the net. Moments later, the Gaels would take the lead on a clever Slater Doggett backhand as he rounded the net and fired it over Savard's shoulder. 
 
The Voyageurs had chances to make a comeback with two late powerplays but were unable to find a tying goal as Fazio stood tall, and the Gaels would skate away with a hard-fought 3 to 2 victory.
