The Gaels sweep No. 9 Patriotes 3-2 in double-header series

| By:
BOX SCORE KINGSTON, Ont. (November 10, 2018) – With the 3-2 victory under their belts, the Queen's Gaels (8-3-0) secured a weekend sweep during the second leg of double-header action over the visiting UQTR Patriotes on Saturday night (6-5-0).

GAME FLOW
A strong offensive sequence from UQTR in the opening minutes of the game saw a flurry of shots head Jack Flinn's way, but the second-year Gaels goalie stood tall to keep the scoreboard blank.

Despite looking to avenge their 5-2 loss to the Gaels from the previous night, a three-on-three rush would see Patrick Sanvido put the Gaels ahead. Rolling offensively, Slater Doggett would add one more to the tally with a smooth backhand on the glove side of the Patriotes cage.

Fighting back with the clock winding down, Christophe Boivin would stall the Gaels' momentum and put the Patriotes on the board with a 2-1 score heading into the second period.

A scoreless second period gave way to elevated physical play while both teams battled to find the goal. Although the first powerplay only came in the 39thminute, the previously empty penalty box filled with Tricolour and green as a tussle broke out between the opposing sides. It seemed that mounting tension during the close affair would make way for an interesting third period.

It would be the Patriotes who found the net first in the final frame, leveling the playing field with a short-handed goal from Mathieu Lemay for a 2-2 score.

With just two minutes remaining, who else but Gaels scoring leader Mason Kohn to come up with a huge five-hole goal to retake the lead 3-2. The score would stand for the remainder of the game and Queen's would go on to take a season sweep over UQTR.
