Gaels rugby dominance of cross-town Paladins continues

| By:

KINGSTON, Ont. (October 5, 2018) – The Queen's men's rugby team (6-0) defeated the cross-town rival RMC Paladins (1-5) 65-14 at Navy Bay on Friday afternoon.

GAME FLOW
Regardless of the Gaels not fielding a full-strength squad, the Paladins put up a valiant first half effort against the reigning OUA champion Gaels. They held the Gaels to only 19 points and responded with two converted tries of their own in a narrow 19-14 advantage in favour of Queen's after 40 minutes of play.

The Paladins could not keep up this momentum in the second half however, as the Gaels returned to their torrid scoring form, posting 46 unanswered second-half points and putting the result well out of reach, securing their 16thstraight OUA victory.

Standouts from the match included third-year Vancouver, BC forward Trevor Helgason, who put his playing time in this match to good use, scoring his first two tries of the season. Scrum-half Dylan Young also continued his consistent play, scoring a try and converting five kicks.

BY THE NUMBERS
440 – Points scored in OUA play by the Gaels this season, more than double all other OUA teams with the exception of Laurier (270).
10 – Ten different Gaels scored a try in the match, another well balanced scoring effort. Queen's is also undefeated against the Paladins in the last ten years of OUA play.

UP NEXT
Next weekend, the Gaels travel to London, Ont. to take on the Western Mustangs (2-3) Saturday, October 13 at 3 PM.
