KINGSTON, Ont. (October 28, 2018) - The Queen's Gaels (1-1) picked up their first win of the season with a 3-2 victory over the visiting Western Mustangs (1-1). The win also marks the first OUA regular-season victory for head coach
Gabriel de Groot.
GAME FLOW
After opening up the match with a pair of set wins 25-22 and 25-21 the Western Mustangs made the Gaels earn the victory battling back with 25-20 and 30-28 set wins to force a fifth and final frame.
The Gaels broke out to an early 7-4 lead but the Mustangs chipped away and eventually went in front 13-11. With the fifth set tied up at 15-15, the Gaels picked up a kill from
Zac Hutcheson and after a strong Hutcheson serve
Dylan Hunt put down a rocket off a bad serve reception to seal the victory.
NEUERT AND RUDD CAREER KILL MARK
Mitchell Neuert finished with 21 kills in the match which sets a new career-high mark for the second-year Gael. The 17 from
Joel Rudd marks a career-high for him as well.
