KINGSTON, Ont. (October 27th, 2018) – The Queen's Women's Volleyball Team (1-0) defeated the Windsor Lancers (0-1) on Saturday Afternoon at the ARC Main Gym in OUA Women's Volleyball action.
GAME FLOW
The Gaels struggled early but managed to tie it up at 15-15 before breaking out to a 23-20 lead and eventually taking the first set 25-23. The Gaels were led in the first set by
Julia Wiercigroch with five kills and two blocks.
Queen's jumped out to a 10-5 lead to begin the second set. But after a tough looking leg injury to Gaels middle blocker
Natalie Crews, the Lancers would narrow the advantage and get themselves back in the set. The teams went back and forth in the late stages, with the clutch attacking play of
Caroline Livingston, eventually securing the 29-27 set victory for the Gaels and a 2-0 set lead.
The Lancers kept it tight again in the 3
rdset, drawing even with the Gaels at 17-17 and then again at 24-24 before the Gaels eventually won out 27-25 and three sets to none, giving the Gaels their first win of the OUA season.
While the Lancers started out strong attacking at a rate of .381 in the first set, they struggled in the 2nd and 3rd sets with attacking rates of -.083 and .118 respectively. Conversely, the Gaels attack got better as the game went on, with an attacking rate of .256 in the final set.
