VANCOUVER, British Columbia (October 12, 2018) – The Queen's women's volleyball made their way across the country to compete in the West Coast Classic for an exhibition tournament against some of the top competition in Canada.
FRIDAY
The Gaels began there tournament in Vancouver, BC where they dropped their opening matchup 3-0 (25-22, 25-12, 25-19) to the Trinity Western Spartans.
The match was back-and-forth throughout the first set, however the Spartans gained the upper hand and took the opening frame by a slim 3-point margin.
The Gaels were never able to rebound and dropped the next two sets.
Later in the day Queen's took on the host UBC Thunderbirds at 10 pm ET in Vancouver. The Gaels battled through another tough opening set with UBC but fell 25-20. After UBC took the second set 25-10, the Gaels looked to push the match to a fourth set but UBC was able to hang on for a 25-18 win.
SATURDAY
The Gaels capped off their west coast trip with a meeting with the Thompson Rivers Wolfpack.
They got off to a fast start taking the opening set 25-17, however it would be the only set they would manage to take as the Wolfpack stormed back to take the next three sets 25-23, 25-20, 25-22.
UP NEXT
The Gaels will have next weekend off as they prepare for their home opening weekend starting October 27 as the Windsor Lancers come to town. Game time is set for 1pm in the ARC - Main Gym.
