No. 7 Gaels win-streak snapped in 1-0 OT loss to Lakers

NORTH BAY, Ont. (January 5, 2018) – The No. 7 Queen's Gaels (8-3-0-2) lost a tough, hard-fought battle to the Nipissing Lakers (7-1-4-1) 1-0 on Friday night. The teams were unable to get on the scoreboard in regulation time, so the game went to an extra frame where Lakers' forward Maria Dominico ended the game and sent Nipissing home with a 1-0 victory.

GAME FLOW
Queen's came out firing in the first period as they were able to direct 12 shots toward Lakers' goaltender Jackie Rochefort. The Gaels were unable to beat Rochefort however. The same could be said for the Lakers as they directed eight shots at Gaels goalie Stephanie Pascal (Sudbury, Ont.) and were kept off the scoresheet.

The teams would battle it out for the final two periods in a very even affair with neither team able to break through with the go-ahead goal. Regulation time would end with the Gaels leading in shots 23-18, but the score still tied 0-0.

Dominico would end the game at the 1:55 mark of overtime when she beat Pascal for her tenth of the season and the game-winning goal.

Rochefort picked up the shutout victory in net for the Lakers while Pascal took the loss in net for the Gaels while making 19 saves.

The Gaels remain undefeated in regulation time this season.
