Callender and Wolever lead No.8 Gaels past Trent

KINGSTON, Ont. (September 24, 2017) - The No.8 Queen's Gaels (5-2-1) got back in the win column on Sunday with a 2-1 victory over the Trent Excalibur (1-7-1) at Richardson Stadium.

GAME FLOW
Laura Callender (Ottawa) had a strong offensive day for the Gaels starting off with firing a penalty kick shot to the back of the Trent net in the 14th minute.

Just ten minutes later, Callender fed a cross pass to Jenny Wolever (Toronto) who punched in her third goal of the season putting the Tricolour out in front 2-0.

Just before the half, Trent was awarded a penalty kick of their own and Kaitlyn Steffler beat Gaels keeper Anna Stephenson (Vancouver) to cut the Queen's lead in half.

In the second half, Callender kept the pressure on early and the Gaels came close off a pair of corners. Sarah Nixon (Oakville, Ont.) had a partial break and fed Lidia Bradau (Woodbridge, Ont.) for an open shot but the attempt went just wide of the Trent net.

The Excalibur started to press offensively in the late stages of the game but couldn't get any good chances on target.

Stephenson stopped one of the two shots faced to pick up the win.
