KINGSTON, Ont. (September 30, 2017) – The Gaels close the game with a 6-1 victory over the Ryerson Rams in the first home game of the weekend. Leading scorer for the Gaels,
Laura Callender added three more goals to her season record with a hat trick against Ryerson.
GAME FLOW
The ladies began the game with hard pressure on the Ryerson Rams defense. Only 3 minutes into the first half
Taylor Green (Fall River, N.S.) sent a strong shot to the crossbar setting up the Gaels' leading scorer,
Laura Callender (Ottawa, ON) for the goal.
Leading the OUA conference in assists,
Jenny Wolever (Toronto, ON) made a quick run down the right sideline, sending a cross into the Ryerson box, resulting for another goal for
Laura Callender. Only 3 minutes later, Wolever scored an unassisted goal of her own, beating two Ryerson defenders to strike from 25 yards out.
A free kick from the 20 yard line put
Alexandra Doane (Brookside, N.S.) in perfect scoring position, making the score 4-0 for the Gaels to end the first half.
In the second half the Gaels held their lead, with Callender and
Jamie Foot (North Vancouver, B.C.) scoring two more goals for the Gaels. In the 81
st minute, Ryerson found the back of the net, making the final score 6-1 for the tricolour.
