KINGSTON, Ont. (September 21, 2017) - Queen's men's lacrosse player Chris Boushy received the call he's been hoping for all his life as he was selected in the third round of the National Lacrosse League (NLL) draft 31st overall on Monday night by the Saskatchewan Rush.
"Getting drafted into the National Lacrosse League means so much to me," said Boushy on the announcement. "Ever since I first picked up a lacrosse stick, It's been my dream. Saskatchewan has been very successful in recent years, and their fans have been dubbed the best in the NLL, so I am very fortunate to be drafted by a team that plays in front of fans that are just as passionate about the game as us players."
In total 59 players were selected on Monday across six rounds of the draft. For Rush GM/head coach Derek Keenan described Boushy to saskrush.com as someone who impressed at the combine with his scoring and foot speed.
"This presents lots of exposure for our program as Chris is a leader on our team and one of our top players," said head coach Alec Johnston. "Chris represents what it means to be a Queen's lacrosse player, and we are very proud to have him represent Queen's so well."
The Gaels, who compete in the Canadian University Field Lacrosse Association (CUFLA), are off to a 1-3 start to the season with Boushy playing three games and has eight goals and four assists for 12 points.
The Gaels will also be hosting this years CUFLA championship the Baggataway Cup on November 3-5 in Kingston.
