Paladins defeat Gaels 4-0 in Lou Jeffries game

GANANOQUE, Ont. (September 16, 2017) - The Queen's Gaels headed over to Gananoque to take on the RMC Paladins in their annual exhibition matchup, the Lou Jeffries game where the Paladins took a 4-0 win.

The Gaels lost their first exhibition game of the season getting shutout in Gananoque.

RMC struck once in the second period on a powerplay marker from Owen Gill. They then scored three more in the third period en route to a 4-0 win.

Lou Jeffries was a dedicated, community-driven volunteer for the town of Gananoque, Ontario. He was recognized by his love of hockey and his involvement in the Gananoque Minor Hockey Association (GMHA). Jeffries assisted the GMHA for more than 50 years until his death at the age of 75. He is also known for his contribution in bringing Junior B hockey to Gananoque in 1971. Over his lifetime, Jeffries worked in a number of different roles including Coach, General Manager, President and League Executive for the GMHA and Junior B Gananoque Islanders.

This year's recipient of the Lou Jeffries scholarship is defenceman Nathan Billitier. Billitier was unable to attend the game as he was invited to the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets main training camp after a successful stint in their rookie camp last week.

As a proud supporter of Queen's University hockey, Jeffries was always delighted when a player was able to improve upon their life by moving on to an academic institution or sporting team. Realizing that he played a small part in helping an athlete's dreams come true provided him with great satisfaction.
