NORTH BAY, Ont. (September 16, 2017) – The No.5 Queen's Gaels (4-0-1) prevailed over the Nipissing Lakers (1-4-1) 3-1 in their first road game of the season.
GAME FLOW
The Gaels started the first half strong with several offensive attempts and excellent defensive work. The Gaels took the lead in the 26th minute of the match with an unassisted goal from
Alexandra Doane (Brookside, N.S), her third of the year.
Laura Callender (Ottawa) added another goal for Queen's to pad their lead in the 43rd minute of the game.
Jenny Wolever (Toronto) added an assist on the play to take over the OUA lead in the category with four. Heading into the first half Queen's held a 2-0 lead.
With their 2-0 lead over Nipissing, the Gaels eased off their offensive attack to begin the second half. The Lakers were finally able to break through with a goal to cut the Queen's lead in half.
In the 63rd minute of the game, Callender managed to score her second goal of the game for the Gaels, pushing the final score to 3-1.
Callender now had four goals on the season for 2nd in the OUA and picked up her first game-winner.
Marina Ribecca (Vancouver) got the start and turned aside six shots for the win.
