KINGSTON, Ont. (September 13, 2017) – The Queen's football team (0-2) hosts the visiting No. 5 Laurier Golden Hawks (2-0) in the Game of the Week at Richardson Stadium on Saturday at 1 pm. For tickets head to www.gogaelsgo.com/tickets.
 
Following the last minute, 14-13 loss to the No. 9 Ottawa Gee-Gees on the road, the Gaels will look to bounce back after having their bye week to snag their first win of the season in front of a home crowd against Laurier.

Queen's used their bye week to get out in the community and visit schools around Kingston to speak about being a student-athlete and the benefits of having a growth mindset. 

 
The Gaels last game against Ottawa saw rainy, windy conditions where both sides struggled to move the ball. Going into the second half ahead 9-3, the Queen's defence continued to make big plays as Cam Lawson (Caledon, Ont.) and Nick Dowd (Gananoque, Ont.) each picked up sacks. The Gaels saw their late lead slip away however as Ottawa's Jackson Bennett returned a kick-off 99-yards for a game winning touchdown. 
 
After back-to-back heartbreakers against Carleton and Ottawa, the Queen's football team is hungry for a win.

Despite the losses, the Gaels do have some positives that they can carry with them into Saturday as they could easily be a 2-0 team at this point and gave Laurier a run for their money in 2016.

The last time the Gaels met Laurier was during last year's season opener in Waterloo, when Queen's fell to the Golden Hawks 37-18. Despite a strong Gaels drive to come back from an 8-0 margin and climb 15-9 over the Golden Hawks, Laurier was able to overcome Queen's. The Golden Hawks defence took over late in the game, picking pick six and following up with a fumble returned for another score. 

This weekend marks the 21st meeting between these two teams. The Gaels lead the all-time series 11-9-0.

Head coach Pat Sheahan is narrowing in on a couple of milestones in the win department, with 95 regular season and playoff wins at Queen's, and 149 regular season and playoff wins in his career.  A win would put the current longest serving U SPORTS football coach at the 150 mark.
