LONDON, Ont. (August 19, 2017) - Both the Queen's women's and men's soccer teams are in London, Ontario for the annual Old Four tournament that features the four original university foes in Queen's, Toronto, Western and McGill.
SATURDAY
Both Gaels sides drew Toronto to start off the two-day tournament and were both able to come away with victories to advance to the Sunday finals.
The women picked up first half goals from first-year players Taylor Green (Halifax) and Alex Doane (Brookside, N.S.)  to get out to an early advantage. In the second half, it was veteran striker
Jenny Wolever (Toronto) who found the scoring touch and potted herself a pair of strikes to seal the 4-0 victory over Toronto.Â
On the men's side
Briam Jimenez-Lopez struck for the Gaels early before Toronto was able to find an equalizer just before half. After both sides went scoreless from there, a winner was decided in penalties where the Gaels came out on top 5-4.
Zachary Toupin sealed the win for the Gaels with the fifth strike.
Both teams will now take on Western on Sunday for the 2017 Old Four titles.
SUNDAY
The Queen's women's team clinched an Old Four tournament victory after defeating Western 1-0 on Sunday afternoon in London, Ontario.Â
The Gaels Wolever added her third goal in the two day tournament in the 67th minute and it held up as the winner.
Alanna Richardson got the start for Queen's and picked up a clean sheet victory.
The Gaels open up their OUA regular season at home to Laurentian on September 2 at 12 pm. The game can also be seen live on OUA.tv.
On the men's side it was the home team Western taking home the Old Four title with a 2-1 victory over the Gaels. Western opened the scoring on a penalty kick in the 45th minute then extended their lead to 2-0 early in the second half.
The Gaels were finally able to get on the board when they were awarded a penalty kick of their own.
Kyle Owens made no mistake cutting the lead back to just one. The Gaels were unnable to find an equalizer and the Mustangs held on to win.
