Last November Sumner qualified for the NACAC meet with her third place finish at the Athletics Canada National Cross Country Championship which was hosted in Kingston. The opportunity to represent her country is no new feat for the Gaels star as she had previously competed for Canada at the FISU Cross Country championships in Cassion, Italy in 2016.
Sumner is the third Queen's athlete in the past four years to represent Canada internationally as Victoria Coates and
Julie-Anne Staehli competed and FISU together in 2014 and Staehli was also a competitor at the 2016 NACAC. Coates, who ran for Queen's in her fifth year of eligibility, will also be at the 2017 NACAC competing for Canada.
