KINGSTON, Ont. (February 19, 2017) - The Queen's Gaels (9-8) took a decisive 3-0 win over the visiting Nipissing Lakers (8-9) to strengthen their playoff picture heading into the final weekend of the OUA regular season.
GAME FLOW
The Lakers got out to a quick lead on the Gaels in the opening set and held an advantage throughout most of the frame. Queen's stayed close on their heels and tied the set at 20-20 in the late stages. Queen's edged out in front and after missing on their first set point at 24-23, the Gaels took the opening set 26-24 off of an attack error from Nipissing.
In the second the two teams once again went point-for-point through to the technical timeout which saw Queen's take a 16-15 lead. From there, the Gaels took six of the next seven points which included a kill from the middle by Isabelle Birchall (Ottawa) who followed up with a service ace for the very next point.
Queen's built up a six-point lead late in the set and
Caroline Livingston (Kelowna, B.C.) finished the set off with an ace to put Queen's up 2-0 in the match.
The final set had the home side out to a fast start as Queen's jumped ahead with a 13-5 advantage. With a game-high eight Nipissing attack errors coming in the third set, Queen's kept their momentum and easily claimed the third and final set 25-13 to seal the win.
