KINGSTON, Ont. (February 19, 2017) - The Queen's Gaels (9-7) lost in straight sets to the visiting Nipissing Lakers (11-5) on Sunday afternoon at the Queen's Athletics and Recreation Centre.
GAME FLOW
The Lakers controlled the pace of the play in the opening set getting out to an early lead on Queen's. The Gaels were able to stay in line with Nipissing, finishing with 15 kills to the Lakers 14. Queen's was finally able to catch Nipissing and tie the match at 22-22 off of a service ace from Zachary Hutcheson (Kingston, Ont.). The Lancers were able to rebound and took three straight points to claim the opening set 25-22.
In the second, it was the Gaels who got off to a quick start taking a 9-5 lead in the frame. Coming out of the technical timeout down just one point, Nipissing took four of the next five as well to put themselves in front of Queen's. The Gaels kept it close once again but a kill from Jack Peckham put Nipissing up 2-0 in the match.
The two teams went back-and-forth in the third set, but after leading 14-13 Queen's was not able to keep pace with the Lakers. Nipissing struck for six straight points and closed out the set with a 25-19 win to claim a 3-0 match victory.
