KINGSTON, Ont. (February 18, 2017) - The Queen's Gaels (8-8) won a decisive match over the York Lions (7-9) 3-2 on Saturday afternoon at the Queen's Athletics and Recreation Centre (ARC) in women's volleyball action.
The Gaels
Caroline Livingston (Kelowna, B.C.) led the way with a new career high of 25 kills in the match while three other Gaels recorded double-digit kill totals.
GAME FLOW
The match started off with both teams going back-and-forth at each other with neither side able to put a run together. The Gaels dropped the opening set 27-25 but were able to bounce back in the second frame with another close 25-23 set win.
The third set was all Gaels as they took it the Lions putting together a kill percentage of 0.469 in the set. Queen's setter
Sierra Hardy (Oakville, Ont.) put together a 51 assist game for the Gaels collecting many in the third set. The Gaels took a 2-1 advantage with a 25-15 set win.
York was able to put together a strong fourth set, taking eight of the first 10 points in the match. The Gaels couldn't fight their way back into the set and the match was headed for a fifth and deciding frame.
In the fifth, the Gaels got off to a quick start. A pair of kills from Livingston gave Queen's a 2-0 lead to start things off. After the Lions tied things at 2-2 the Gaels took six of the next seven points. Queen's was able to use their lead to stay ahead the rest of the way before Livingston finished things off with her 25th kill of the match.Â
