KINGSTON Ont. (February 12, 2017) – The Queen's Gaels (7-8) came away with a 3-1 win over the visiting Lakehead Thunderwolves (3-14) on Sunday afternoon at the Queen's ARC. The scores of the sets finished 23-25, 25-14, 26-24 and 25-15.
GAME FLOW
In the first set the Queen's started the game off trailing Lakehead after a serving rally by Kailan Robinson from Lakehead.  The Gaels created plenty of scoring opportunities but the strong blocks by the Thunderwolves made it difficult to capitalize.  Kills from 
Savannah de Groot (Ottawa) and 
Caroline Livingston (Kelowna, B.C.) kept the tricolour in the match fighting to catch up to the Thunderwolves lead. The Gaels hard work tied the set at 22-22 but Lakehead was able to finish off the set 25-22.
The second set saw Queen's with a quick four point margin over the Thunderwolves which was then pushed quickly to 11-4. Kills from Livingston and 
Isabelle Korchinski (Vancouver) strengthened the momentum for Queen's, creating a nine point lead between the Gaels and their opponent. Throughout the set, the Gaels put a stop to the Thunderwolves attacks with blocks from Livingston and 
Danielle Corrigan (North Vancouver, B.C. ) keeping their lead and ending the match with a winning score of 25-14.
With the game tied at 1-1, the Gaels started the third set with kills from Livingston and Korchinski, blocks from 
Caitie Poxon (Kingston, Ont.) and Corrigan, and a six point serving run by 
Victoria Wensley (Coquitlam, B.C.). Lakehead kept the game close with back and forth plays and the Gaels pulled ahead after a tie at 24-24. The game ended on a kill from Wensley for a score of 26-24 for Queen's.
In the final set of the game the Gaels took a quick lead and dominated possession creating a 10 point advantage for a decisive lead of 20-10. The Thunderwolves were unable to catch the Gaels and kills from Livingston, Korchinski and Corrigan only sent the Gaels up on the scoreboard. Queen's won the set 25-15, and the match with a score of 3-1 .
