KINGSTON, Ont. (November 18, 2017) – The No.10 Queen's Gaels (8-2-0-1) picked up a 2-0 victory over the UOIT Ridgebacks (2-2-5-1) on Saturday night at the Memorial Centre.
Hailey Wilson (Pickering, Ont.) scored the game winning goal in the second period with her third of the season, while
Addi Halladay (North Augusta, Ont.) added a late empty netter to seal the win for the Gaels. The Gaels controlled the play for most of the game and that was reflected with a 37-18 shot count in favour of them.
GAME FLOW
The Gaels would get plenty of chances to open the scoring in the first period as they were given three power plays. Despite good puck movement, the Gaels were unable to get quality scoring chances and shots on net with the Ridgebacks down a player. The period would end with no scoring on either side and the teams would head into intermission tied 0-0.
Wilson opened the scoring just 28 seconds into the second period for the Gaels as she notched her third of the season from
Clare McKellar (London, Ont.) and
Micaela Smith (Cobourg, Ont.). Pascal was very solid in the period making nine saves and keeping the Ridgebacks off of the score sheet. The Gaels would take a 1-0 lead into the final frame.
In the third period, the Gaels played a strong defensive game to hold their lead over the Ridgebacks. UOIT would pull their goalie before an offensive zone faceoff with 50 seconds left but their attempt at a rally was short lived as Halladay finished things off with her sixth of the season into the open cage just ten seconds later.
Pascal answered the bell when she needed to and picked up her third shutout of the season in the Gaels win while Celine Tessier took the loss in net for the Ridgebacks.
