Penalties prove costly in Gaels 4-2 loss to Ridgebacks

OSHAWA, Ont. (November 10, 2017) – The Queen's Gaels (4-2-3) fell 4-2 to the UOIT Ridgebacks (3-5-1) on Friday night. Three power play markers from the Ridgebacks would prove to be the difference. The Gaels made it close in the third period, cutting the lead to 3-2, but were unable to find the equalizer.

GAME FLOW
Queen's got off to a slow start in this one, as they fell behind in the first period when Jesse Baird scored a power play marker to put UOIT ahead 1-0 at 14:14.

The second period saw more misfortune for the Gaels as Loren Ulett extended the Ridgebacks lead to 2-0 at 7:19. UOIT would round out the scoring in the period with just 15 seconds remaining when Brennan Roy capitalized with a man advantage and put the Ridgebacks up 3-0 heading into the final frame.

The Gaels were able to start the third period off on the right foot as they took advantage of a power play of their own. Ryan Bloom (Calgary) notched his third of the season at 6:28 with the help coming from Slater Doggett (Oakville, Ont.) and Warren Steele (Williamsburg, Ont.). Doggett cut the Ridgebacks lead to 3-2 just over seven minutes later when he added his team leading sixth of the season at 13:32.

The comeback would fall just short, as Alex Yuill added an empty netter at 19:15 to give the Ridgebacks the 4-2 victory.

Tyson Teichmann picked up the win in net for UOIT while Jacob Brennan (Halifax) had 31 saves in being charged with the loss for the Gaels.
