Gaels clipped by Warriors in overtime

WATERLOO, Ont. (October 22, 2017) – The Queen's Gaels (2-0-0-1) dropped a tight 3-2 affair in overtime on Sunday afternoon to the Waterloo Warriors (0-1-1-0). Two goals from Katrina Manoukarakis (Scarborough, Ont.) wasn't enough to propel the Gaels to victory as the Warriors' Hannah Street ended the game at 3:06 of the extra frame.

GAME FLOW
The Gaels outshot the Warriors 8-4 in the first period but were unable to get one past goaltender Taylor Reimer. The two teams would head to the second period tied at 0.

Manoukarakis opened the scoring just nine seconds into the second period with the assist coming from Clare McKellar (London, Ont.). That would be it for scoring in the second as the Gaels would take a 1-0 lead into the third frame.

The Gaels would strike quickly in the third period as well, as Manoukarakis tallied her second of the night at 0:32. Waterloo would answer back at 12:38 of the period when Maryn Caragata put them on the board with her first of the season. As time winded down, Waterloo pulled their goalie and were able to score the equalizer with just 41 seconds remaining in regulation time to send the game to overtime.

In the extra frame, the Warriors were able to complete the comeback when Street put the puck in from a tight area for the 3-2 win. Reimer picked up the win in net for Waterloo with 31 saves while Stephanie Pascal (Sudbury, Ont.) registered 16 saves in the loss.
