No.10 Gaels fall 2-1 in overtime in Toronto

TORONTO, Ont. (October 20, 2017) – The Queens Gaels (2-0-1) suffered a 2-1 overtime setback at the hands of the Toronto Varsity Blues (2-0-0) on Friday night. Varsity Blues' defenceman Evan MacEachern scored his second goal of the night at 1:08 of overtime to hand the Gaels the loss.

GAME FLOW
The Gaels had a strong first period which saw them pepper Varsity Blues goaltender Frederic Foulem with 15 shots on goal. Despite the quick start, Queen's was unable to find the back of the net. The only goal of the period was a late power play marker from the point by MacEachern at 18:44.

The second period saw the Gaels and Varsity Blues trade power play opportunities. Neither team was able to get on the scoreboard as the Gaels would head into the third period trailing 1-0.

The Tricolour struck early in the third when Luke Bertolucci (Montrose, B.C.) was able to beat Foulem for his second goal of the season at 4:14 to tie the game 1-1.

With the game deadlocked at 1-1 after 60 minutes, the teams headed to 3-on-3 overtime. The action went end to end for the first minute before MacEachern took the puck from behind his own net and skated the length of the ice, firing the game winner behind Gaels goalkeeper Jacob Brennan (Halifax).

Foulem stopped 28 shots, getting the win in net while Brennan turned aside 22 shots in a losing effort for the Gaels.
