TORONTO (October 21, 2017) – The No.10 Queens Gaels (3-1-0) secured a 4-3 win in a tight affair with the No.7 Ryerson Rams (3-1-0) on Saturday night.
Ben Fanjoy (Ottawa) gave the Gaels a 4-3 lead at 8:06 of the third period that they would not relinquish.
Kevin Bailie (Belleville, Ont.) was strong in net with 31 saves and the win.
GAME FLOW
The Gaels opened the scoring at 9:32 of the first period when
Warren Steele (Williamsburg, Ont.) potted his first of the season on a rebound past Rams goaltender Mario Culina. The Rams answered back quickly as Aaron Armstrong tied the game at the 10:40 mark.
Jaden Lindo (Brampton, Ont.) scored his first career U SPORTS goal with 28 seconds remaining in the period to give the Gaels a 2-1 lead heading into the break.
Ryerson opened the second period with two quick goals to take a 3-2 lead before
Eric Ming (Williamstown, Ont.) answered with his second goal of the season to tie the game 3-3. The teams would head into the third period deadlocked.
Fanjoy gave the Gaels the lead nearly halfway through the third period, with his first OUA goal, when he was able to bang home a rebound in the Ryerson goal crease. Despite being outshot heavily in the third period, the Gaels were able to hold on and pick up the win.
Bailie received the win in net for the Gaels while Culina had 17 saves in the loss.
