The Queen's women's volleyball team will continue their regular season when they return to the ARC main gym for their home opener against Nipissing on November 4 at 1pm following a 3-0 sweep over RMC last weekend.
Last year, the Gaels squad finished the season with a 10-9 record, culminating in a quarterfinal loss to Western during the OUA playoffs.
Then, the young Queen's team of seven rookies, five second years, and three third years had no senior players on the roster.
A year older, the Gaels will look to build upon last season under new leadership of head coach
Ryan Ratushniak.
Ratushniak is deeply familiar with high performance volleyball at the university, national and international level. As the assistant coach for the women's national team, he coached in more than 50 international matches in different parts of the world. More recently, Ratushniak served as the assistant coach for the men's volleyball team at the University of Manitoba.
OUA All-Stars
Caroline Livingston and
Isabelle Korchinski return for their fourth season as senior leaders of the Gaels squad. The pair combined for 434 kills last season – 52% of the team's kills. Also returning to the court is outside hitter Shannon Neville. Entering her fifth and final season with the Gaels after taking last year off to focus on her graduate studies in Biomechanical Engineering, Neville will bring leadership as the most senior veteran on the Tricolour squad.
Alongside returning vets,
Danielle Corrigan will look to build upon her impressive rookie campaign this season. The 6ft outside hitter was named to the OUA All-Rookie team last season.
