Third period tally gives Gaels 2-1 win over UOIT in season opener

OSHAWA, Ont. (October 14, 2017) – The Queens Gaels (1-0-0-0) started their season off on the right foot on Saturday afternoon in Oshawa with a 2-1 win over the UOIT Ridgebacks (0-0-1-0).
 
GAME FLOW
The opening twenty minutes saw chances on both ends of the ice with each team registering eight shots on goal. Queen's was finally able to break through with just six seconds remaining in the opening frame when Kaylie Dennis (London, Ont.) opened the scoring. Assists went to Caroline DeBruin (Burlington, Ont.) and Addi Halladay (North Augusta, Ont.).
 
The Ridgebacks were able to even things up at the 4:58 mark of the second period on a goal scored by Chelsea Ball. The game would head to the third period tied 1-1.
 
The third period was tight checking once again. The Gaels were able to take advantage of a power play at the 12:06 mark when DeBruin gave them a 2-1 lead tapping home a loose puck at the side of the net. The Ridgebacks would not be able to solve Gaels goaltender Stephanie Pascal (Sudbury, Ont.) in the remaining minutes of the third period. Pascal was solid throughout the game, recording 21 saves in the victory. Briar Hughes stopped 26 shots for UOIT in the loss.
