York Lions Defeat No. 3 Gaels 5-4 In Shootout

TORONTO (January 20, 2017) – The No. 3 Queen's Gaels were defeated by the York Lions 5-4 in a shootout Friday night.
 
GAME FLOW
Queen's opened the scoring halfway through the first period. Harrison Hendrix (Calgary, Alta.) scored for the Gaels. Graeme Brown (Gananoque, Ont.) and Patrick Downe (New Maryland, N.B.) assisted on the play. York responded five minutes later. Dexter Bricker scored for the Lions, Nathan Larson and Nicholas Geiser picked up the assists. This left the game tied 1-1 heading into the second period.
 
Early in the second, Ryan Bloom (Calgary) scored for the Gaels to take a 2-1 lead. Downe and Slater Doggett (Oakville, Ont.) assisted. Two minutes later, the Lions once again tied the game. Greg Milner scored with Reid Jackman and Colton Vannucci assisting. Shortly after this goal the Gaels pulled ahead again. Eric Ming (Williamstown, Ont.) scored on the powerplay to take a 3-2 Gaels lead. Bloom and Warren Steele (Williamsburg, Ont.) assisted on the goal. Before the end of the period, Ming picked up his second goal of the period, extending the Gaels lead to 4-2.
 
In the third period, the Lions clawed back into the game. Twelve minutes in, Scott Feser scored to cut the Gaels lead to 4-3. Derek Sheppard and Dexter Bricker assisted on the play. With less than five minutes remaining in the period, York picked up another goal to force overtime. 
 
After two scoreless overtime periods, the game concluded with a shootout. In the first round of shooters, Greg Milner scored for the York Lions. After three attempts, the Gaels were unable to score, allowing the York Lions to take a 5-4 final.
