Gaels extend win streak to six games with 5-2 victory over Waterloo

NAPANEE, Ont. (January 15, 2017) – The Queen's Gaels (8-2-6-0) defeated the Waterloo Warriors (8-2-6-1) 5-2 Sunday afternoon in Napanee to extend their winning streak to six games. 
 
GAME FLOW
In the first period Queen's opened the scoring. Kyla Crouse (Mount Brydges, Ont.) scored for the Gaels on a quick snapshot. Nadia Larocca (Mississauga, Ont.) and Jessica Wakefield (Lucan, Ont.) assisted on the play. Thirty seconds later Waterloo responded. Amy Barnard scored for the Warriors, after receiving a cross-crease pass from Marissa Redmond. Dana Fairbarn picked up the second assist. Before the end of the period Queen's once again pulled ahead. Addi Halladay (North Augusta, Ont.) scored for the Gaels with a top-shelf backhand shot. Katrina Manoukarakis (Scarborough, Ont.) and Bryce Desa (London, Ont.) assisted on the play. This gave the Gaels a 2-1 lead at the end of the period.
 
In the second, Waterloo tied the game on the power play. Marissa Redmond scored for the Warriors after receiving a pass in front of the net from Rachel Marriott. Samantha Burbridge picked up the second assist. Before the end of the period, Queen's once again pulled ahead. Halladay picked up her second goal of the afternoon tipping in a shot by Manoukarakis. Megan Farrell (Barrie, Ont.) picked up the other helper on the play. This gave the Gaels a 3-2 lead, but penalty trouble late in the period gave Waterloo a chance to tie the game. Crouse picked up a major penalty giving Waterloo a five minute power play. The Gaels Larocca took another penalty while shorthanded and the Warriors had a full two-minute five-on-three chance. Queen's power play and goaltender Stephanie Pascal (Sudbury, Ont.) held strong and killed off the Warrior attack.
 
In the third period, Clare McKellar (London, Ont.) extended the Gaels lead on a well-placed short side snapshot. Kaylie Dennis (London, Ont.) and Hailey Wilson (Pickering, Ont.) assisted on the play. This gave the Gaels a 4-2 lead. Before the end of the period, Wilson extended the Gaels lead to 5-2 after shooting in a rebound. Dennis and McKellar picked up the assists. This proved to be the final goal of the game, allowing the Gaels to take a 5-2 victory over the Waterloo Warriors.
