KINGSTON, Ont. (September 3, 2016) - The No.7 Gaels (1-0) defeated the visiting Nipissing Lakers (1-2) 2-1 at Miklas-McCarney Field Saturday afternoon in their 2016 home opener.
GAME FLOW
Queen's started their regular season schedule with a fast paced attack, getting the only shots of the opening 25 minutes. Nipissing got on the board with their first shot of the game in the 29th minute, when Selena Innamorati converted on a penalty kick.
The Gaels stormed back before the half was over, scoring twice in quick succession with goals from
Jenny Wolever (Toronto) and
Rachel Radu (Ottawa). Wolever's goal was unassisted in the 40th minute, when she beat a defender in the box before shooting to the keeper's right. Wolever also picked up an assist on the Radu marker, crossing the ball into the six yard box for her teammate to tap it in.
In the second half, neither team could find the back of the net to give Queen's the 2-1 victory.
