KINGSTON, Ont. (August 17, 2015) - The women's soccer team had a strong showing to kickoff their exhibition schedule on Wednesday afternoon on Tindall field, beating the UQAM Citadins 3-0 in front of a crowd of children attending Q-camps.
UQAM finished the 2015 season with a 5-8-1 record to end up in fifth spot in the RSEQ.
GAME FLOW
Both teams struggled to find their footing early in the match, as the majority of the first half was played at 0-0. Gaels All-Star from last year
Jenny Wolever (Toronto) excited the crowd as the half wore on, repeatedly beating her defender down the left wing and sending balls toward goal. In the 42', it was Hannah Dobie (Surrey, B.C.) who broke the deadlock for Queen's, touching a pass from
Brittany Almeida (Kingston, Ont.) past UQAM keeper Jessica Lebrosseur. Moments later, Wolever almost doubled the Gaels lead, but hit the post.
In the second half, Almeida was again the playmaker, this time finding the head
Tianna Lombardo on a cross. Lombardo made no mistake, floating the ball over the outstretched keeper for the Gaels second goal in the 56th minute. Almeida later found the back of the net for herself, sliding into the six-yard box to finish a pass from
Tara Bartram (Vancouver) and give Queen's the 3-0 victory.
Gaels keepers Alexa MacLatchy (Halifax, N.S.) and Marina Ribecca (Vancouver) split the clean sheet, playing one half each.
