Neville powers Gaels past Brock 3-1

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. (February 6, 2016) – After dropping the first set to the hosts, the Gaels (9-7) put away a three consecutive set comeback win (18-25, 25-21, 25-10, 25-7) against the Brock Badgers (1-13) this Saturday afternoon.

The Gaels were led by Shannon Neville (Cambridge, Ont.) who chalked up 14 kills from a 0.375 efficiency and picked up 10 digs in their win. Becky Wilson (Pickering, Ont.) and Caroline Livingston (Kelowna, B.C.) matched Neville with 10 digs a piece while Shannon Hopkins (North Vancouver) followed them up with seven digs and 11 kills.  

For Brock, Karlinna O'Leary headed the defensive line with her 12 digs as Laura Condotta led the offence with her six kills. Alanna Norris supported the Badgers throughout the night as she contributed four kills, nine digs and four serving aces.

GAME FLOW
The Badgers hit the ground running in the first set, catching the Gaels unaware as they more than doubled the Queen's efficiency and scored a 25-18 set win, opening up their afternoon ahead 1-0. In the second the Gaels settled down and managed to get their momentum going allowing them to increase their efficiency to 0.216. By the end of the set, the Gaels had gained enough traction to put away a 25-21 set, tying to match up at 1-1.

Heading into the third set, Queen's hit their rhythm and continued to pull away from the Badgers who saw their early match advantage slip away with a 25-10 set score awarded to the Gaels. In the final frame the visitors didn't let up. With their largest efficiency of the night the Gaels kept the Badgers from reaching double digits as they scored a 25-7 final set to wrap up their three set comeback win.

The Gaels will challenge the Ottawa Gee-Gees next Saturday, February 13 on the Queen's home court. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 pm in the ARC Main Gym.
