Gaels shutout Windsor on day two of their double-header

WINDSOR, Ont. (November 5, 2016) - Queen's (7-2-1) defeated the Windsor Lancers (5-5-0) for the second time in as many days with a 1-0 road victory on Saturday night.

GAME FLOW
The opening period remained scoreless for its entirety, but not for lack of effort from the skaters. Both teams put up their most shots in the first period, Queen's edging out Windsor in that department 13-12 through 20 minutes. While neither team could find the back of the net, both found their way to the penaly box. Graeme Brown (Gananoque, Ont.) sent Windsor to the powerplay inside the first five minutes on a boarding call, but a trio of Lancers repaid the favour as the period progressed. Despite three power-play chances for Queen's the first intermission came and the teams were still scoreless.

It was more of the same in the second, with Steve Anthony setting the tone two minutes in with a cross check, sending the Gaels to the power-play again. Queen's fired 12 shots on net in the middle stanza, but couldn't solve Windsor netminder Kris Joyce. Kevin Bailie got the start for the second straight night for Queen's, turning away all seven shots he faced in the frame.

Queen's started the final period on the latter half of their fifth consecutive power-play, but still weren't able to get on the scoreboard. Jake Clements (Toronto) was then called for holding, giving the Lancers their first power-play since the opening period. Rather than capitalize on the man-advantage, Windsor took a slashing call to make it four-on-four for 19 seconds. However, it only took the Gaels five seconds to score off the ensuing face-off. The puck came back to the point and got worked around to Spencer Abraham (Campbellville, Ont.), who buried the game-winner. Picking up assists on the play were captain Patrick Downe (New Maryland, N.B.) and Darcy Greenaway (Wilton, Ont.).

Bailie finished the night with 29 saves for the shutout, while his Lancer counterpart stopped 32 shots in a losing effort.

BY THE NUMBERS
11 - The teams combined for 11 penalties
